Mathews School Goals

Our goal is to improve student achievement in the academic content areas.  The faculty and staff have targeted specific areas for desired improvement and set high academic achievement goals for our students.  Goals for achievement are:

 

Kindergarten:

˛     98% of the kindergarten students at Mathews will score in the “Ready for First Grade” Category.

˛     90% of kindergarten students will read 75 words using the Dolch Word List.

˛     90% of kindergarten students will demonstrate mastery of writing benchmarks at the kindergarten level.

˛     100% of kindergarten students will participate in two authentic assessment projects, exhibitions, and/or presentations with one of these being a technology multi-media project.

First Grade:

˛     90% of first grade students will read 60 words per minute on grade level text, using a running reading record.

˛     90% of first grade students will show a nine month gain between Pre and Post Test using STAR Reading Assessment.

˛     85% of first grade students will score 90% on required timed tests and/or 20 points higher than their pretest scores in basic addition (0-18) and subtraction (18 - 0) facts.

˛     90% of first grade students will demonstrate mastery of writing benchmarks at the first grade level.

˛     100% of first grade students will participate in two authentic assessment projects, exhibitions, and/or presentations with one of these being a technology multi-media project.

˛     In the area of reading for vocabulary improvement, 95% of first grade students will meet and/or exceed the state standard.

 

Second Grade:

˛     90% of second grade students will read 90 words per minute on grade level text, using a running reading record.

˛     90% of second grade students will show a nine month gain between Pre and Post Tests using STAR Reading Assessment.

˛     85% of second grade students will score 90% on required timed tests and/or 20 points higher than their pretest scores in basic addition (0 – 18), subtraction (18 – 0), and multiplication (0, 1, 2, 5) facts.

˛     90% of second grade students will demonstrate mastery of writing benchmarks at the second grade level.

˛     100% of second grade students will participate in two authentic assessment projects, exhibitions, and/or presentations with one of these being a technology multi-media project.

˛     In the area of reading for vocabulary improvement, 95% of second grade student will meet and/or exceed the state standard.

 

Third Grade:

˛     90% of third grade students will read 120 words per minute on grade level text, using a running reading record.

˛     90% of third grade students will show a nine month gain between Pre- and Post Tests using STAR Reading Assessment.

˛     85% of third grade students will score on required timed tests and/or 20 points higher than their pretest scores in basic addition (0 – 18), subtraction (18 – 0), multiplication (0 – 9), and division facts.

˛     90% of third grade students will demonstrate mastery of writing benchmarks at the third grade level.

˛     100% of third grade students will participate in two authentic assessment projects, exhibitions, and/or presentations with one of these being a technology multi-media project.

˛     In the area of reading for vocabulary improvement, 95% of third grade students will meet and/or exceed the state standard.

˛     In the area of vocabulary, the percentage of students scoring in the high stanine will be 50% or higher with no more than 5% of students in the low stanine as measured by the Iowa Test of Basic Skills.

Fourth Grade:

˛     90% of fourth grade students will read 120 words per minute on grade level non-fiction text, using a running reading record.

˛     90% of fourth grade students will show a nine month gain between Pre and Post Tests using STAR Reading Assessment.

˛     95% of fourth grade students will score 90% on required timed tests and/or 20 points higher than their pretest scores in basic addition

˛     90% of fourth grade students will demonstrate mastery of writing benchmarks at the fourth grade level.

˛     90% of fourth grade students will participate in two authentic assessment projects, exhibitions, and/or presentations with one of these being a technology multi-media project.

˛     In the area of reading for vocabulary improvement, 95% of fourth grade students will meet and/or exceed the state standard.

 

Fifth Grade

˛     90% of fifth grade students will read 120 words per minute on grade level non-fiction text, using a running reading record.

˛     90% of fifth grade students will show a nine month gain between Pre- and Post Tests using STAR Reading Assessment.

˛     95% of fifth grade students will score 90% on required timed tests and/or 20 points higher than their pretest scores.

˛     90% of fifth grade students will participate in two authentic assessment projects, exhibitions, and/or presentations with one of these being a technology multi-media project.

˛     In the area of reading for vocabulary improvement, 95% of fifth grade students will meet and/or exceed the state standard.

˛     In the area of vocabulary, the percentage of students scoring in the high stanine will be 50% or higher with no more than 5% of the students in the low stanine as measured by the Iowa Test of Basic Skills.
